This piece of Jewish art is an unique prayer for Jewish women as they light Shabbat candles. The Torah explains that the pomegranate contains exactly 613 seeds (you can count them). Therefore, it is a symbol of the entire Jewish people because each of us is filled with mitzvots every day. Whether a person is the simplest or the most righteous, every day is filled with the mitzvots he made. I chose this floral design for lighting candles to honor the woman’s commandment of lighting Shabbat candles. Every year in the period leading up to Rosh Hashanah, we are privileged to see in the Land of Israel the amazing flowers that precede the fruit of the pomegranate tree as you can see in one of the pictures and this season is an inspiring season for us that everything is beautiful and blooming. I decided to adorn this prayer with gold and copper to recall the importance of Jewish women and this mitzvah, which brings their light into the home throughout the week.
The text of this prayer is the ancient text of the Shabbat candle prayer for generations.
The gilding of each piece of this artwork is handmade with gold and copper leaf on an archival giclée print of my original watercolor hand painting printed at a printing house specialized in museum printing. The paper used is a high-quality 240 gsm acid-free Italian paper.
